Search for document automation services and you will find products, several of them good. What is harder to find is somebody who builds the thing your process needs inside the systems you already run, then hands it over.

Word add-ins. Built with Office.js, running inside Word on the desktop and on the web. A panel your team uses without leaving the document: pulling in client data, applying house style, validating a contract against your own clause rules.
DOCX and OOXML manipulation. Working on the file format directly rather than driving Word through automation. Nothing has to be open, no machine needs Office installed, and ten thousand documents cost roughly the same per file as one.
PDF generation, editing and processing. Fixed layouts, form filling, splitting and merging, stamping, and extracting text and tables back out again.
Template systems and merge at scale. A merge that runs as a scheduled job against a database instead of as somebody’s Tuesday afternoon.
Document data extraction. Structured fields pulled out of invoices, contracts, forms and statements, into a system that can act on them.
Where the Documents Are Allowed to Go
This decides the architecture rather than decorating it, so we raise it first.
Software you own runs where you put it: an EU region, your own server room, or a machine with no external connection at all. For law firms, medical practices and anyone holding a confidentiality clause drafted before hosted platforms existed, that is the whole decision.

The Sequence That Works
Most of the job happens before the generator is written. It is establishing which of your documents are genuinely the same document, and which only look alike because they share a letterhead.
Read a real sample set, find the variation, decide what the format can enforce and what still needs a human to approve, then build.
When Building Earns Its Cost
Products fit standard processes well, and where one fits yours it will be the cheaper answer.
Building pays where your process has a shape the product cannot hold, where the files stay inside the EU, or where volume makes per-document pricing expensive. That third case arrives sooner than people expect once a monthly run is involved.

A Word add-in with Office.js, a DOCX editor working against OOXML directly, and a PDF processing tool. Those are our own projects rather than client work, so we can show you the code and how the awkward parts were handled.
The awkward parts are the point: tracked changes, content controls, a table crossing a page boundary, and a file that is perfectly valid OOXML and still opens wrong.
What It Costs
A focused Word add-in is usually four to eight weeks. A batch pipeline depends almost entirely on how consistent the input documents are.
